Oh goodness....here I go joining the older than dirt group. Haha. I was
raised on Pet evaporated milk, one can to one can water, Karo syrup, and a
dropper of baby vitamins. This was put in a container and stirred, then
poured into bottles which were then put into the sterilizer and 'canned' and
they they were put into the fridge for the day's feedings. This was done
every morning and enough were made to provide all feedings until the next
morning. Only lazy mothers used store bought formula you know....and it was
brand new on the market so no telling if it was even safe to feed a baby.
Haha. Oh, and I had cereal at a few days old added to my bottle and baby
food put into my bottle at a few weeks old. I had this very special teddy
bear my mother sewed an elastic to that held my bottle and fed me so she
could get things done. Her remark when I said I would be breastfeeding
..... besides the crude "oh gross, a baby sucking your tit is disgusting"
was "You know, Pam if you 'do that' you will have to hold your baby to feed
it and what a waste of your day that will be." Twenty years ago when I
rocked my first born as she nursed to sleep I cried for myself and the
mothering I never got, but also for my mother who had no idea what she lost
when she gave me to a teddy bear to feed.

Take care,
