Am posting this for La Leche League friend of mine who's had difficulty
posting on Lactnet; please respond to list and to me personally, if you'd
like and I'll pass it on to her. I've also done an archive search, waiting
for results. Thanks.

<< I have a mother who is very concerned and I am looking to reassure her if
possible. She has high cholesterol and has controled it with Lipator. She
now has a 4 week old, is not taking the Lipator per the doctor's
instructions, and has a cholesterol level of 300. Her doctor says that she
should breastfeed and continue as long as she wishes and go back on the
Lipator when she weans. She is nervous and uncomfortable with this and is
worried that she will have a heart attack in the meantime.

I looked it up in Hale and the drug is not recommended in lactating women
since cholesterol is essential to neonatal development.

 Thank you,
