There's one other breast part our culture is afraid of, and that's the
natural contour of the breast, especially at the side.  A featureless,
front-and-center, cleavage-intense hemisphere is fine, but the
soft-swell-at-the-side-with-evidence-of-fold-underneath is a no-no.  I
didn't become aware of this until I abandoned bras, and realized that the
subtle side contour in some outfits was just as scandalous as the existence
of a nipple.  As you say, quite puzzling...
