In my own humble experience, I have witnessed first hand the calmness my
daughter had when at the breast during her heel sticks. The lab techs were
downright hostile with me when I demanded to nurse during these sticks....I mean,
how dare I make them bend in such a manner to make a poor innocent baby
comfortable. However, my daughter barely flinched during the PKU, and several
bili sticks. The lab techs left shaking their heads, amazed that they weren't
listening to a screaming baby that was just "mad" and not really in pain.
Due to this experience, I have watched the techs change their attitude and even
encourage moms to nurse during these procedures. I, of course, tell moms
they have the right to do this and more than one mom has gratefully thanked me
for this information.

Just my humble experience-in honor of my baby girl's first birthday.
