Hi I'm new to LactNet but just wanted to offer a comment on the Amby Baby hammock. I bought it despite the rather steep price tag for my very colicy, refluxy, little girl who was having a very unsettled "4th trimester". I purchased it when she was about 6 weeks old. I was hoping she'd sleep 2 or 3 hrs in it so I could get some sleep, too. It did not work out for us. In fact, unless me or my husband were actively bouncing the spring coil, she didn't even like being in it. See, the hammock is on a huge spring coil cable that if you're dealing with a 15 pound baby, then maybe, but only possibly, could the baby's own weight actually "jiggle" the bed enough to make it relaxing and give the desired hammock effect that they talk about (the baby's own movement soothes them back to sleep). Plus, the Amby is on such a tight coil that I think it requires the baby to be able kick their legs or move their arms in a pretty aggressive way in addition to a more substantial body weight to get the thing to bounce or jiggle. But since new babies are both lightweight and do not move in coordinated ways, I see the Amby as pointless. However, I have one friend with a very mellow baby who is using it and loves it, but I think her son would sleep anywhere. Just don't buy it thinking it is a miracle the way the website makes it sound.

Subject: Amby Baby Motion Bed?

Wise Ones:

What are your opinions about the Amby Baby hammock-like baby bed? The
testimonials I most often read from parents is that baby sleeps easily
through the night, often up to 12 hours, from a month or so old.

My gut feeling says that that could easily interfere with breastfeeding,
baby's weight gain, and mother's fertility. But it is endorsed by Dr. Bill
Sears, whom I highly respect.

What do you all think?

Blessings.
