Were you able to see what the tongue attachment is like? Aspiration can 
sometimes be more of an issue for tongue tied babies, as can a 
hyperactive gag. The fact that dad has similar issues points to either a 
genetic anatomical or neurological basis for the problem.
Poor little guy. If he's not helped to eat in a way that does not cause 
him to aspirate, he's likely to start refusing to eat at all within the 
next few weeks. A Haberman feeder on the slowest setting (a mini 
Haberman for a baby with a very strong gag) might be helpful, as may 
very frequent 1-2 minute long feeds (if mom can deal with that).

And I concur with Rhoda's suggestion to refer him to a feeding team for 
further evaluation, and to stay involved. One baby with a similar issue 
in my practice turned out to have a microdeletion, and her feeding 
ability deteriorated over her first 5 mos of life.
