Dear netters,

<<<I have a client who has a 16 month old child who is still breastfed, who
was conceived by implantation of a fertilised embyro....She is having reg
periods...but doctors want her to wean....She requires no medication once
the embryo is implanted. Apparently the doctors can track her cycle with
blood tests and ultrasoud of her ovaries, so I can't see where
breastfeeding fits in at all, as long as her body is ready to become
pregnant.>>>>

Most women that undergo this procedure require some or many drugs prior to
the retrieval of the eggs. One issue here is this; are these drugs safe for
the baby who is still breastfeeding AND is a woman who is breastfeeding
going to slightly decrease her odds at becoming pregnant? If one needs to
do IVF (invitro Fertilization) in order to have a baby, it is imperative to
have her body at the optimum level of receptivety, remember, IVF is very
expensive, emotionally taxing and can be physically uncomfortable.

In order for a woman to become pregnant from IVF (Invitro Fertilization)
the fertilized eggs (embryos) have to implant. The implantation requires
either putting the eggs in at the time of a womans natural ovulation and
HOPING that it implants (20% chance at best) or by using drugs (progestrone
and estrogen) to help implantation and maintance of a pregnancy. No
guarantees.

Sadly for me I had to wean my lovely IVF son at 14 months in order to do
another IVF attempt. Yes, the clock was and still is ticking. I don't
really know the answer to your questions Fiona, but I do know that most
people do not choose to do IVF, usually it's the last option, so when one
does do this procedure, it behooves them to have the perfect BABY MAKING
milieu.
Warmly,
