The moms took several months under a psychiatrist's care, to begin to get back to normal. I've seen SO many moms who have had problems with it, that I think it;s about 85-90% of those who take it more than a few days who do not start to have problems with it. I was shocked to learn, recently, that the same doc who was telling adoptive moms that the side-effects were temporary, back in the early 90s, is STILL doing it! I think he's fortunate that he hasn't been sued, or had a mom take her life, disrupt her adoption, or some other tragedy, brought on by it. A few have problems with domperidone, but most benefit significantly, with temporary, or no, bothersome effects. Nursing on demand with the Lact-Aid, and no meds, as we did when my kids were babies, still results in a partial, but significant, milk supply, in most cases, and a normal, bonded relationship. Most babies do well on a combination of breast milk and some kind of formula, which was usually our only choice 25-35 years ago, and it is now very often possible to find donated breast milk to make up the difference. Bio moms with supply problems can also make use of the feeding tube devices, either short or long term and, of course, there are a multitude of natural methods for increasing milk production. There is no reason, in my opinion, that anyone should be exposed to the possibility of adverse effects of Reglan! Why on earth the US FDA continues refuse to approve domperidone, is certainly a mystery!
