Has anyone ever convinced a doctor to prescribe it, or am I going to be
setting myself up for darts? Have you had success with any other
galactagogue? Mother's milk pills?
I have a mother, baby almost 4 weeks old, weight 2.9, up 200 g. from birth.
Sleepy baby, was bf. until recently, with top-off. Now mother feels
supply dwindling drastically. Tried 24 hr. diaper count, 1 wet diaper
after several hrs. of bf. Wet/dirty diaper after every ABM feeding.
Mother is getting a hospital-grade pump, and then I will see her. I would
like to see if we can get the baby cup-fed. I asked the mother to keep the
possibility in her mind, and we would see what happens when we get
together. I wanted to wait until she has pump before I see her because she
hasn't bf any other baby, this is fourth, and I see she is going to need a
lot of hands-on support, and she lives quite a distance away. In the
meantime I have her giving alternate feeds: All bf for two hours, then ABM
feed, then all Bf again. She says baby wakes up three hrs. after ABM
feeding. Should I have her give slightly less and have baby wake up
sooner? ALso have mother switching sides every time he falls asleep. I am
sure this is behavioral shutdown at the breast, which is why I prefer to
get her cup-feeding. Last time I tried the SNS it was a disaster and I am
very hesitant to try again. Anyone succeed in building supply without the
SNS?
How often should I have her pumping once she gets the pump? I don't want
to tire her out, her husban d is in US on business.
Anyone ever deal with explaining to hesitant mothers why taking baby to bed
is so great for supply? We have a very big cultural thing against it,
especially because of what's written in Kings. Any ideas?
Why do they only get to us when it's almost too late?
