A mother in the midst of a long divorce has written to me, asking for support.
Maribeth has a nine month old son that she is nursing. Next month the court
is going to make a decision in regard to weaning. The judge has refused to
allow her to continue nursing her baby until he is 14 months old because he
wanted the overnight visitation to start as soon as possible. Maribeth feels
she has nowhere to
turn.

Her next scheduled, and most likely the final hearing is April 15, 1998. She
loves the bond she shares with her baby and is not against extended visitation
with his
father. In fact she is very much in support of it. She doesn't believe that
the court
system should be able to determine when Ihe has to stop breastfeeding her son.

Her attorney has been in contact with Liz Baldwin, she has contacted La Leche
League and has downloaded the AAP breastfeeding guidelines for the judge.
If you have the inclination or opportunity to write a letter, Maribeth's
attorney will share these with the judge. Please send letters to Maribeth at
