Hello group,

I received a solicitation from a local Christian missionary group today asking me to please donate infant formula for an upcoming trip they are taking to Dominican Republic and Haiti. I was asked because I facilitate a local new mother support group and perhaps they thought I would easily be able to collect donations.

I sent a lengthy reply about world-wide health initiatives and breastfeeding support, along with warnings about non-native language products, non-sustainability, increased diarrhea illnesses and mortality, etc and links to UNICEF, WHO, and a couple of op-eds.

This woman feels as though I am doing a huge disservice to the starving babies of DR and my fact-filled emailed did not dissuade her.

I do notice that most missionary groups do indeed take baby formula with them on trips. Has anyone seen any policy statements or information targeting that particular group that may be of interest ?

thanks in advance,
