Kathleen A.,
With all due respect, no I don't think this issue should be dropped
nor side lined to private postings, precisely because of the confusion you
speak of. Without posting about the questions, the ignorance will only grow.
Jay's post with even more questions about how the breast actually
transfers milk in conjunction with how the baby suckles the breast are quite
important for some mothers and some lactation workers in understanding what
is going on with our moms.
One point you make has been most important for me -- the mother
'feeling' something IS NOT the important aspect. But the calls I get are
from moms who both don't feel anything and have babies that aren't doing
well -- the ones feeling MERs and/or wtih babies doing well don't usually
call me... and for the ones having difficulties I want to understand what is
going on so that I know what to work on with them -- positioning? problem in
mom (physical or tension related?) problem with baby (illness, sleepiness,
frenulum, palate???) Both?
For the moms at 3-4-6 months who call me bc they have robust babies
but only get drops or an ounce or two when pumping and it takes them 30-40
minutes, or more, of pumping to get even that and they have to go back to
work and have 15 minute breaks and are panicking about what/how to feed the
baby next week... These moms need me to understand what is going on to help
them help themselves.

If not on lactnet, where?

Respectfully,
