The nurses today who volunteered the cake and cupcakes really outdid
themselves in creativity. We had cupcakes with inverted nipples, retracted
nipples, teen nipples, granny nipples, flat nipples, sore nipples (
raspberries candies), cracked nipples, leaking nipples, and even nipples with
yeast. The best graphic one was a cupcake that illustrated a poor latch
resulting in sore nipples. The icing was bunched up in a vertical line across
the top of the cupcake with a rasberry candy on top. All were decorated with
icings of different shades of pinks and browns with different sizes and types
of candy drops! It was a great learning experience as the nurses tried to
guess each type of nipple. We had nurses coming from all over the hospital to
see the breast cupcakes. The security even asked what was going on but when I
invited them in to see, they backed out very quickly when I explained the
occasion!
i also had on display a teeshirt I got several years ago at a conference that
started "I did it with two girls, I did it in the movies, I did it all night
and wasn't even sore etc and ends with "breastfeeding everyone's doing it".
The nurses loved that so much the supervisor went back to her office and made
posters of the sayings to post in the lounge.( I hope the author of that
doesn't mind!!) All the nurses said they want that shirt for next year. Does
anyone know where it is from? Maybe Linda Smith???
The patients all were asking about the gold ribbons so breastfeeding was
totally the topic of the day.
Better than I ever envisioned.
Tomorrow is the posters with the quiz. Hope we have enough prizes.
