After a VERY LONG time No Mail, I just had to share an experience that one
of my mom's recently had with the First Year's pump. Her sister bought it
for her at S---- R----- dept. store because she had to return the Lactina
that the WIC program rented for her until her baby was discharged from the
NICU. When I discovered what she bought, I suggested she return the pump and
purchase a pedal pump with the money. Before she did that, she just had to
give it one more try. When she did, she told me, "I got stuck with that
pump." I asked for clarification, thinking she meant that S---- wouldn't
take it back after it had been used.

NO, I was mistaken. She meant literally that her breast got stuck in the
breast shield! She used warm water and vegetable oil to release her breast
and promptly returned it to S----. Luckily, she did get a refund...smart to
buy it at S----...they do stand behind their products! We agreed it wasn't
funny when she was in a panic trying to figure out how to get her breast out
of the thing, but we had a good laugh afterward!

I'm an LLL Leader Reserve, at present. But, was active when I was preparing
for the IBLCE exam the first time. What I recall was that as an active
Leader, the contact hours are estimated by how many years you've been
actively working with BF moms or leading meetings. I believe it is now
suggested to keep a log of hours, to make it a little more accurate. I still
needed additional hours, so called the local WIC agency to see if I could
volunteer there and guess what? They hired me to work part time. So, it
worked out better than I'd bargained for. If any more specific information
about this avenue is needed, a call to the IBLCE office should answer any
questions.

Hope this helps.
