Ruth Lawrence says in her new edition, on page 660 "It has also been
shown that if the infant uses a pacifier rather than receiving
non-nutritive sucking at the breast, the suppression of ovulation is
diminished." Lawrence says this is taken from a study by Lewis, renfree
and Brown (1991) Fertility and Sterility 55:529.

I have always understood that with LAM no other kind of sucking or
nutrition should be introduced to the infant.
