I have permission to share this information on a client who is experiencing
great pain when ovulating and wondering if there is a connection to the
breastfeeding her toddler is doing... Any thoughts on this? Thanks, Ann
Conlon-Smith, IBCLC, LLLL

Here's the situation:

"I'm suffering from pain in my lower abdomen when I am ovulating.  The pain
is very intense and it hurts to put my foot down when I walk, I have to ease
into sitting down, etc.  My doctor did an ultrasound and said my cervical
lining is twice as thick as it should be.  I did three months of provera for
10 days each month to shed the lining.  I have now completed that regimen
and am again having severe pain when I ovulate.  The pain makes me very
grouchy and irritable too.  I regained my period when my now 21 month old
baby was 14 months old and have had the pain for every period, maybe even
more severely every other month.  It's been recommended I try to exercise
more and drink more water which I will try.  My question is is there any
link between the intensity and frequency of my toddler's nursing and my
pain?  He nurses for very long periods maybe three to five times a day and
maybe 2 to four times at night.  The night nursings are quite long because I
fall asleep and don't do much about it.  He is my second child and my
daughter nursed until she was 3 1/2 and this pain never developed.  She was
also very into nursing but NOT like he is.  I do much to distract him and he
is a very busy, teething, active, health but very adamant boy.  BTW, all my
gyn tests have been negative and my periods have been extremely regular
since starting back."
