Hi All,
Talked to my client with the plugged duct that has been hanging on for over a
month.  I am really worried about her, and need a bit more input.

Her situation seems to have worsened.  The plug that is visible on the tip of
the nipple is more bigger, and the duct itself is like a hard little ball
under the nipple and now is swollen almost to her armpit.  When she
expresses, the fluid that comes out of the duct now, is clear.  This is a new
develpoment, within the last 24 hours.  She says that when she is done
expressing, the duct fills right back up again.  It is painful and tender.  I
asked her if she had tasted the fluid.  She did while we were on the phone,
and she said it tasted kind of salty/bitter.  I had already told her she
needed to go to the Dr ASAP, and when she told me all of this new info, I
reinforced that reccomendation even more.
Everyone, is this what I think it is?  Does this sound like an abcess to you?
 It does to me.  I discussed this possibility with her, and the possible
treatments.  She is pretty accepting of all this, tho not very happy about
it.  Her biggest concern is that if there has to be surgery, will she be able
to BF, and she already said that if she needs the surgery she will INSIST
that the incision be back far enough so that the baby can BF.  This is a 19
yr old (barely) single mom determined to give her baby ONLY breastmilk, and
no bottles or paci's.
Thanks to all who told me to tell her to see a Dr.  She will be going in
first thing tommorrow and will let me know, but I would still like your
input.
