The abstract is freely available at the URL Denise Fisher sent, but the full
text is only available to subscribers. The abstract is unclear regarding
the methodology and I think the conclusions would be more meaningful and
comprehensible if one could read the entire article. The intervention was
quite complex, and not possible to explain satisfactorily within the
confines of an abstract. I want to read the full article at work tomorrow.

This is an important area of research with implications for both immediate
and long-term care of babies born early. Since the publication of the
article showing breastfeeding to be strongly analgesic I have begun
encouraging the mothers I work with to breastfeed their (term) infants while
I take blood samples for bilirubin or PKU tests, and it works well. The
only person more inconvenienced by this is me, as I have to stand in various
awkward positions to collect the blood. I am flexible and don't mind a bit.
