I like the recommendation to wait until the baby has been nursing well
for about 3-4 weeks. In my mind--and sometimes out loud--I will say
that given a "learning period" of about two weeks, that would make a
baby about 6 weeks old. One could still say "a month." In my opinion,
the important part is "nursing well." I always talk about that--what
that means. I think that's the part the mom needs to understand about,
but these recommendations are never {as much as we'd like to : ) }
presented as dictums. Moms make their own choices.

For moms intending to return to work and feed expressed milk, I
encourage not fretting over getting the baby to take a bottle or
whatever. I encourage they use that time to just be with their babies.

I also encourage this mom to talk about feeding her breastfed baby with
her prospective caregiver. They can talk about different feeding
options, the need for baby to be in-arms as much as possible (sling),
and the general challenges--for all--of making this set of transitions.
A caregiver who understands all this and is willing to work with the mom
is worth her weight in gold.
