The work done in the past 20 years or so on neurological, cerebral and
biochemical  development is
consistent with this picture. Just on the cerebral side, infant brains are
not able to cope with a succession of or variety of caregivers - that's our
biology, and while we can still survive if we
'fight' it, and the effects of it can be mitigated if other good things
compensate for it, then or later, it just isn't the 'right' way for homo sapiens!

It never ceases to amaze me how deep the pool of knowledge is on this List,
and how barely a fraction of it, or perhaps none!, ever actually gets to
individuals or families in the "outside" world from other sources like a baby's
own pediatrician, a mother's OB, etc. How many of us know infants and children
 who have a long succession of caregivers, day and night, even if their
mother is alive? Also, I was not surprised at all to hear that inductions carry a
double risk of amniotic fluid embolism, or that this was not mentioned in the
article. I would bet money I don't have that if this event happened at home,
it would be blamed on the mother's "choice" whereas no one is even providing
information about how medical model decisions are involved in this outcome.
 { I wrote this yesterday but already had sent too many  posts...:)}
