Hi

I exclusively expressed for 26 months for my youngest (just weaned
last week). I demand fed him EBM for that whole time. He drank
around 800mL per day until around 12 months increasing to about 100mL
per day at 18 months. He started with 8 x 100mL and gradually cut
back his milk requests, but I gradually increased his serving size.
So he gradually went up to 180mL per serve. One day around 18 months
it clicked with me that he would finish off whatever I gave him and
then be happy, so I gradually cut his serving size back down to 120 mL
and his intake dropped to 600mL per day, so 5 . 120mL. I also found
that once my periods resumed my supply gradually dropped off and
nothing I did would improve this. Formula fed babies seem to be given
4 x 240mL at 12 months, I found this was too much for my boy, it
stretched his stomach, I never actually worked up to it, I stopped at
180mL which seemed his maximum intake, although now he can drink 300mL
of water at a sitting when really thirsty.

I hope this helps your mum.
