Dear Friends:
Nursing pillows are like brassieres; good tools for some and unnecessary
for others. The thing about bras is that they are sized according to cup and
chest size. There is no such sizing for nursing pillows and that is where a
huge problem lies. One platform for any length of arm, any dangle of nipple,
any size of baby's head, any length of torso?
I'd prefer to see a mother improvise a supporting platform from
something she has at home, such as bed pillows/sofa cushions and the like
rather than go buy something.
There is such an emphasis on buying things. Someone buys her a nursing
pillow for her baby shower; she assumes she has to use it. Nursing pillows
can make such problems, especially as baby grows and elevates over her
areolar height. How many babies have you fished out of the hole between the
pillow and mother's abdomen? How many breasts have been pulled in how many
directions to get to the mouth on the platform?
No question about their usefulness with multiples.
     Warmly,
