Bromocriptine is no longer used (at least here) to suppress lactation because of the side effects. Instead, we use carbergoline.

Subject: bromocriptine

I have been asked by a non-OB colleague about the use of bromocriptine to suppress lactation in a woman under going treatment for breast cancer. The woman had weaned her infant but do to hormones, still has a MER with cries, etc. According to my colleague, the radiologist is having difficulty seeing where the meds and dyes are going due to full milk ducts. I have no experience with bromocritpine. We talked about other forms of drying up milk such as sudafed, cabbage leaves, sage. Any ideas/comments are appreciated.
