Carol,

my recollection is a study reporting about a 37% decrease in potential
production, I think with longer term use, ....if no one cites the research
for you, you may need to do a search of LN archives.

longer term production may be more of an issue than short term intake, ie;
even many premies can feed well with shield.

confusing because if babies can effectively extract amble milk through shield
then there should be optimal continued production........

Nevertheless, due to the shield being somewhat of a barrier between mom and
baby, therefore possibly decreasing stimulation and/or flow, I always have
moms pump for some amt of minutes after shield fdg use, and prn supp @ shield
the exp milk to baby, until we feel confident that this is not needed
(continuing to keep close tabs on output/wt), or until shield can be asap
phased out, which depends on degree of nipple variation/cooperation.
