Following is my response. I even signed my name. I read through this new
Code - and honestly was disgusted. Watered down...omg! This is NOT
acceptable! What the hell are they doing?? What is the purpose of watering
down a perfectly decent COE?? And there is a huge difference between Code
of ETHICS and Code of Personal Conduct...

It feels to me like everything is just falling apart all over...there must
be a way to stop this insanity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Serious concern with the lack of this statement which should be required:
"The purpose of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners
(IBLCE) is to assist in the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of
the public by..." Why is this important piece missing from the new code?

The new code merely 'encourages' the following of the WHO Code??? The
former COE states: "IBCLCs must adhere to those provisions of the
International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes and subsequent
resolutions which pertain to health workers." This should be in the New
version - it should be MANDATORY!!

Why does this new version water down such important requirements?? Even
the Preamble is all wrong - watered down, no strength! I fail to understand
the point of this.

IBLCE - what are you doing?? Why the changes that serve only to water our
profession down and harm us? By watering down our Code of Ethics to a
watered down Code of Personal Conduct you ARE absolutely causing harm to our
profession. Already there are those who fail to follow the original Code of
ETHICS - now you will be giving them a complete PASS for violating the Code
of Ethics. If they feel their Personal Conduct is fine - for example -
Marketing Bottles and Teats and Artificial Baby Milk in order to make money
- there is NO Recourse and That WILL harm mothers and babies. Under the new
provisions they are merely 'encouraged' to follow the WHO Code - NOT
REQUIRED.

IBCLE - this new COPC gives me cause for great concern. It takes away so
much and leaves so little in the form of actual ETHICS for our field. If
this continues we will be left with no strength, no checks and balances...NO
ETHICS.

This does NOT bode well for our profession...not at all.

VERY Disappointed and disillusioned.
