Dear listmates,  I haven't posted in a while, but I received this e-mail
from a client this morning and am wondering if anyone can offer some
suggestions or would like to share their thoughts.

Here is some background info: Infant born April 28,  had Salmonella at
16 days of age, (positive culture on 5/14) is exclusively breastfed.
Infant has been gaining weight normally, and is good tempered, happy
baby. He gained one pound and 5 ounces last month, and is up well over 4
pounds from his birth weight. He continues to have green stools often,
but without any obvious warnings, and no increased fussiness.  

 

And here is the email from mom this morning:

 

I don't know if you remember a few weeks ago I was talking to you about
the dark green stools with tinges of blood my son C* was having. That
day you were actually able to look at it. I was collecting his stool
samples for his ped who had asked us to. Well this morning (after almost
3 weeks) the results came back and the Nurse Practitioner has come to
the conclusion that C*r has a "true milk protein allergy. You need to
bring him in and we will have to discuss stopping your breast feeding
and switching to formula."  I am devastated, however my gut feeling is
telling me different and that this isn't the cause. I have done my own
research and feel that he may have a condition called a muscosal
prolapse, he was hospitalized at 16 days for salmonella and was thought
to have a muscosal prolapse of the rectum before the culture for
salmonella was confirmed.
