My OB unit is going through some exciting changes....new unit and
competition from a band new hosptial that is attempting baby friendly
status. I am currently the LC at my hosp., we have approx 1500 deliveries /
year. Apart from the hospital I rent and sell breastpumps and take calls
from BF moms. My supervisor has shown interest in taking over my rental
station (no $ involved ....just transferring pumps to hospital
account....as many of you know often times rental stations become a labor
of love and don't always turn a profit so I an really not loosing much if i
give this up) and allowing me to run a rental station through the hospital.
I would prefer interest in baby friendly...but it is not going to happen at
this time!

I have had 1 MD question my motives (he thinks i sell stuff to moms
unnecessarily) but all the rest have been grateful for the service.

We did try renting pumps through the pharamacy a long while back.....did
not work well...I believe the pumps should come with hands on instruction
and thats why it failed.

Anyway, my question is this......have any of you had the experience of
operating a hospital base rental station along with lactation assistance or
even better, started with a home based rental station and then going to
hospital based rental station. I am interested in in what you ahve found
to work best. And also any info on what i could include in a proposal of
such a change. If you prefer please e-mail privatly if you feel this sort
of discussion is not of benefit to the list.

thanks you
