Just wanted to send a quick 'thank you' to the board and those that
responded both publicly and in private regarding my previous uncomfortable
situation with the photographer/'advocate'.

Though I'm pretty sure he didn't mean any harm, all agreed that regardless
of his intent, I should listen to my gut about being uncomfortable and
protect myself professionally and personally by returning the gift card and
setting some boundaries. Like, YESTERDAY.

After speaking with my husband and my supervisor about the incident, we
agreed that it was inappropriate for him to be in the clinic setting in the
first place, and that it was best to sever relations altogether.

I drafted a letter, which the Super reviewed and approved, and printed it
on our department letterhead, stating my discomfort with the situation, and
why I was returning the gift card and promo materials he left with me. I
also requested that he delete and discard any personal or business info he
has on his electronic or other devices/records, and that any future
advocacy at our location would have to be set up through our health
education department in a formal setting. I directed him to local and
national BF coalitions for info on how to advocate breastfeeding if he and
his wife (yes, she is real and I have met her) continue to do so. A copy
of this letter is to remain in my employee file 'just in case'.

I guess what I want to say is 'thanks' for the support and advice,
Lactnetters. I'm glad (in a weird way) that I'm not alone in having had
that unsettling, creeped-out feeling from someone, and grateful that you
shared your wisdom on how to resolve it appropriately and professionally.
I've learned from this incident to be less worried about hurt feelings and
more concerned with protecting myself and my clients. Thank you for all
your feedback and encouragement!

Yet another reason why... LACTNET ROCKS!!!
