From Bonnie:
<<Co-bathing with a newborn would be taboo as
most practitioners in this area are concerned.>>

from another recent post:
<<Couldn't talk the doctor into an SNS although mom
was enthusiastic about the idea.>>

And there was something else in the last couple of days of a similar nature.
(I've been heavily drugged and flat on my back with back pain, so have
gotten a little muddled). Since when do doctors or any other HCP's
(including us) have to give permission for everything moms do with their
babies? For the baby in the NICU, just starting to go to breast - yes, the
medical practitioners can make requirements about how much and when (and
even what, I suppose) the baby gets to eat, but how is it his/her place to
say "bottle OK, SNS not OK"? I would never presume to say to a woman "No,
your baby can't be fed by a bottle - you MUST either breastfeed or use an
SNS."

And where do these bits of advice about bathing with the baby come from
anyway? Don't ask the doctor for "permission"! In my experience, if the idea
of a nice warm bath with her new baby sounds appealing to a mom, it's
probably the BEST thing she & babe could do! (But I sure as hell wouldn't
get into a hospital tub with my baby - unless I had cleaned it myself!)

No wonder so many women go through real crises post-partum - in addition to
all the very real issues they must cope with, we've added stuff like this to
drive them straight up a wall. No wonder it takes a while to become
confident as a mother!

Sorry if I'm kind of virulent today - I feel about as happy as an old stinky
groundhog from days of constant pain, even lying totally still in bed.
