Greetings all.......

I have the permission of a friend to forward her story along to Lactnet. It's
evidence that one person, can and does, make a difference.

Read on........

This last spring I spoke to the manager of the infants department at
Walmart Northrock here in Wichita about the display of baby and
parenting books they had recently added to their department. I
respectfully expressed concerns about the inclusion of 2 little books
called: "Babywise I" and Babywise II" by Gary and Ann Marie Ezzo. After
she agreed to look at a packet of information that my husband and I had
collected over the past 3 years, I mailed her about 10 documents, many
of you have copies of some of these, along with a cover letter
summarizing our concerns about this parenting philosophy and Walmarts
"endorsement" of it by selling the Ezzo publications.

Well, I recently (October) spoke to her again when I was shopping, and
hesitantly asked her about the materials, if she even remembered our
conversation and who I was (as I hadn't seen the books for the past
month or so at either the East or West Walmart, the Emporia or Eldorado
stores - okay so, I shop at Walmart frequently). She informed me that
when they received our information that she and the store manager went
over all the documentation together and he said - "let's pull it!". So
they did. Shortly thereafter, their regional manager/buyer was in town
and they sat down with her and went over it all again. This Northrock
Infants Manager then told me that they had recently received the new
mothering/parenting book display and stock, and... and the Ezzo
materials were NOT included.

So, while I hesitate to feel too victorious, though I am very thankful,
an enormous corporation like Walmart does listen and one mom, one woman,
one family can make a difference.
