Hi all.

Hope this hasn't been discussed already. I was away a few days but I think
I have received and read all the back "logs."

Dr. Brazelton had this in Family Circle magazine (Jan. 9 ed.)

Question: How can I prepare for feeding my baby?
Answer: "I have a strong bias in favor of breastfeeding. Cow milk can create
allergic reactions, and even though there are formulas available made with
substitutes for breast milk, the antibodies that protect infants against
infection can't be replaced.
Breastfeeding also offers a major opportunity for learning the
baby's rhythms. The intimacy between a mother and her baby can be
duplicated with a bottle, but it may be slower and take more determination.
Breastfeeding is certainly worth a try - for both you and your baby.
Read the pamphlets (available from your childbirth educator) that
tell how to prepare you nipples for breastfeeding. Your milk won't come in
for four or five days but don't worry. Although the baby may need extra
water to tide her over, she has stored up enough nutrients fo that she can
wait for your milk."

I kid you not. Preparing nipples?? No milk for four or five days?? Extra
water?? This man is well respected and the magazine is read by MILLIONS of
women. How about a few hundred letters to the editor?

Cold and snow in VA.
