Nursery
RNs (Levels II and III) say that paced feeding takes too much time.
They have 6 babies to feed in what? one hour? and do it every 3 hrs (4
hrs if they can fill him up enough that he sleeps longer) plus meds,
monitoring, diapering, charting, etc. And they say a baby who takes too
long to feed is a poor feeder.

Dear friends,

Filling babies up like tanking gas in a SUV is substandard care, especially for the very young and tiny ones. If these nurses want to give high standard, evidence based care, they should learn about normal infant feeding behavior and intake and digestion of liquid food. And about the effects of shoveling in too large amounts of food too fast upon the child's well being and medical condition. If they don't have time to do it this way, they should discuss this with care management, safety management and human resources management. (had a nice little typo here: typed mamangement ;-) )

Warmly,

Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in southern Netherlands
