Nikki wonders if mothers finding their newly born babies "gross" is a
consequence of technologically driven birth.  
Having worked in a hospital for 10 years where the majority of babies were
born via C Section and the few that were born vaginally were far from
natural, I felt it was even *more* important for these mothers and babies to
spend extended time skin to skin to get the oxytocin flowing etc.  It was
explained that skin to skin is what we do here (both in the OR and the
labour room).  
We did give a brief explanation as to why is was so important for her baby -
and that was that!  In a survey I did of about 200 mothers postnatally, not
one was upset by having her baby skin to skin - in fact the responses were
overwhelmingly positive.  No surprise - I call it "baby magic."
