We place the capped syrynge, or one with tubing attached inside a clean non
latex glove, then place it in warm water. This way, no water actually
touches or gets into gets into the syrynge, and the milk is not
contaminated. This was instituted after much discussion with infection
control and reference to the guidelines set forth by the milk banking
association. We do the same thing for warming volufeeders as the caps are
not always tight enough to prevent water from getting into the volufeeder.
