A couple of things to explore with Max's mother:  is she using hormonal birth
control now (and was not earlier)?  Have her periods returned (or does she
suspect they are about to return)?  Does she smoke?  Did she just start to
drink coffee again after pregnancy (assuming she cut down/back during
pregnancy)?
