Angie reports:

<<Baby was born weighing 6 lbs 4 oz, healthy, no apparent medical issues. =
Mom=20
had breastfed one child previously. This baby was exclusively breastfeed=
ing -=20
eating every 2 hours or so, seemed to be breastfeeding well, and making=20=

plenty of wet and soiled diapers. Mom had a strong letdown.

At 2 1/2 months the baby weighed 9 lbs 2 oz. At that point she was=20
hospitalized and worked up for failure to thrive.>>

It seems to me that the first mistake is working this baby up for FTT. She
is gaining -- has gained at least 3 pounds in 2 1/2 months according to
your post. She has gained 48 ounces in 75 days -- granted, it isn't an ounce a
day, but it is over 1/2 ounce a day. So -- slow weight gain, not FTT. Why
isn't someone just looking at the baby to see about her developmental
milestones, etc etc.

Now -- notice that in the week in the hospital, the baby stayed right on her
track which was just over 1/2 ounce a day. I'm not exactly sure what
happened that in another 6 days she gained 10 ounces, but it does concern me that
12 days later she dropped a pound. I'd love to see the scales she was weighed
on.

Mom pumping and getting 6 ounces/pumping only tells us how much mom is
making -- doesn't tell us what baby is actually taking from the breast. My
suggestion would be to do some test weights -- maybe every feed for 24 to 48 hours
just to see how baby is doing in the usual course of events.....

Certainly I'd do that before I'd try to look at milk composition. Then if
the baby is back to gaining 1/2 ounce/day, I'd leave well enough alone and
just have Mama enjoy breastfeeding her baby.
