Another story from nursing school.
My instructor (who began the semester talking about dehydrated breastfed
babies) acknowledged my waving hand and I launched into a comment about
bf and Crohn's disease (protective advantages).
I began my comment with, "I know I seem to be a guitar with only one
string. But here is some information that you may find useful..."
Like our pharmacist-wannabe addressing colleague, I found that
all conversation in the room had stopped - I would actually describe it
as hushed! - and I could tell that I had reached one of those incredible
moments when I had the total undivided attention of 25 adults.
The professor fussed and feathered about the topic, getting into
a discussion of breastfeeding as an unacceptable public act (!!) -- and
getting me so riled that I was using vocabulary and pulling studies out
of my head that I had forgotten were there (back to those memory banks!).
I was pretty shook by the intensity of what I had done. The
comments from my classmates were wonderful -- "It may be only one string,
but what a tune you can play!"
And -- "Let's get Dawn going again! You were great!"|
"I've learned so much about breastfeeding from you. It's not
just about babies and mothers, it's a part of everything." (And that
student wants to teach nurses someday.)
I'm proud to be another breastfeeding fanatic...And I must tell
you that where I come from BF is our own hometown high school teams (I'm
the BF lady from BF...Green Mtn mama Dawn K. in Bellows Falls, VT
