I hope some NICU nurses or Docs will help me out on this. The term is
Persistant Ductus Arteriosis or PDA, a common problem with preterm babies
where the change from fetal to infant circulation is impaired. I believe the
only treatment is surgical but my NICU knowlege is old so there may be
others. The infants will tire easily and probably will not be able to
complete a feeding at Breast. I think an SNS at Breast with Mom's EBM is a
good idea along with breast compression. The Mom may have to continue to
supplement the feeds until the surgery is done.
