Okay, Lactnetters, I need some help here. Can anyone give me some fairly
recent stats on actual percentage of women who are unable to breastfeed
due to medical problems? As in a control locale, such as in countries
where breastfeeding is completely the norm, developing countries where
formula use has no hold at all (or very little; I guess there probably
aren't any countries left that have never heard of formula use). Also
any information on what effect malnutrition can have on breastfeeding.
My understanding is that the body will continue to create milk even
under extremely harsh conditions, taking what it needs from the mother
in order to nourish the baby. Sorry about the incoherence of this
request; it's a long story, but I just got a fairly disturbing e-mail
from a fellow member of a breastfeeding advocacy group. Please e-mail me
off-list. Thank you.
