Does anyone know where we could get a good poster showing how to
latch a baby on, correct latch, basic breastfeeding technique,
etc... We are considering posting them in all OB rooms and at
the nurses station at our local hospital. We're looking for
mostly pictures with little words. We're in a small town in
Oregon where the nurses that work post-partum are med-surg nurses
who are not trained in breastfeeding, aren't interested in
learning, and most have had unsuccessful breastfeeding
experiences. We're a lay group who volunteer our time to help
these moms breastfeed, and we're constantly running up against a
wall when working with these nurses. A lot of the time we think
we've got the mom off to a good start, and leave for the night,
to come back the next morning and some nurse has given the baby a
bottle so mom could sleep, this week a nurse gave a mom a preemie
bottle nipple to put on her nipple to nurse the baby with, and
they let mom and baby sleep all night two nights in a row, this
when baby hadn't latched and eaten in 48 hours after birth. We
feel that if there were posters, maybe someone would look at them
and help the mom.

Now that I've ranted and raved - does any one have any
suggestions?

You can e-mail privately or to the list.

Thanks,
Linda
