Rob,

I also do not disagree with what Gail said about waterbeds.

My son came hope at 17 days with a healing chest incision from heart surgery.
I was getting up and going to nurse him on the couch. I would fall asleep
nursing and wake up with the baby cradled on the outside almost falling off
the couch. After two weeks of sleeping with him in the cradle next to the bed
with a baby monitor in the cradle and the receiver next to my ear I couldn't
take it anymore.( had to make sure he was breathing after all) I learned to
nurse lying down in my water bed. When we were done nursing I would snuggle
the baby next to my body-with him on his back or side with his face away from
my body (I was afraid of suffocating him with my very large breasts). I would
then put my arm around the baby so my husband wouldn't roll over on him and
the baby wouldn't roll without my knowing about it. This worked very well for
us.

Would I do it again? I don't know. I've heard lots of people do it
successfully. I have yet to see statistics on the other side. Everyone warns
about sleeping on a waterbed with baby and I have a niggling doubt in the
back of my head. It says to me "do you think you can be that lucky again?"
So I will re evaluate if I ever have another child. For now I can only say I
did it and my son is fine.
