Since we are discussing the monetary worth of human milk, I thought it might
be interesting to once again bring up the fact that one company in the USA
believes that human lactoferrin (a component of human mik) is worth quite a bit
of money. The company is Agennix of Houston, Texas and it is part of the
biotech industry that is "attached" to Baylor College of Medicine. But of course
this isn't about making milk for babies or children, this is about the R & D of
the pharmaceutical industry.

"Researchers have been exploring various methods to commercialize human
lactoferrin for years. Until now, lactoferrin has been largely purified from human
breast milk, but at a cost of over $3,600 per gram at just 90% purity."
