Paid lobbyists are used by the American Dietetic Association as well as
individual state associations. Here in Georgia, we (Ga. Dietetic Assoc). have
had a paid lobbyist for quite some time now (about 10 years).  During that
time we have been able to get licensure for dietitians (first it was
voluntary-now it is mandatory).  We have also been able to influence several
legislative issues we were opposed to as a group.  E-mail me privately if you
want a contact person in Ga. to talk to who has worked directly with our
lobbyist and can give you some pointers on how to go about securing one and
tips on working with a paid lobbyist.
