My ds has chipped front teeth that are jagged, plus a habit of backing off the nipple when the letdown happens, both of which have led to persistent irritation at the base of the nipple. Diane Wiessinger and I experimented with creating a makeshift nipple protector made from the cut edge of a Lily Pad (those silicone pads used to prevent breastmilk leaking). (All credit for the idea goes to her - I was just the test dummy :). It worked because the pads "stick" on their own. We made a small strip to just go along the base of the nipple to prevent the rubbing of said pointy teeth. I don't use it all the time - like any gadget, it's a bother - but I do use it to give myself some relief if the skin starts to seem particularly irritated.

If you are curious, I can give you more details, but might help with the pointy baby teeth issue.

Warmly,
Jeanette
