Thank you to all of you who wrote back. I met with the woman today and her pain is mainly in the nipple now. The scar tissue swelling is down and her scar tissue area pain is minimal. I wonder if her body adjusted to the "new smaller" lactating breasts. Although the breasts and areola are smaller, the nipple is quite large and the baby's mouth is quite small. It took her several trys to obtain a latch for fear of pain. The pain lessons each day, but she still feels pain even when not breastfeeding. I am tyring to manage the nipple pain and help her with a more efficient latch, but my gut feeling is that some of the pain is still coming from the redux scar tissue. As some of you mentioned, there is a balance between finding that minimal pain area (scar tissue or nipple).
