I would be interested in any references re: ADHD and breastfeeding.

It is my impression from the books I have read thus far that ADHD is
hereditary, and that some girls in particular seem not to have the
hyperactivity component, but are apt to daydream more than boys. This
seems to lead to less recognition of this thinking style in girls.
("Beyond ADD", and "Women and ADD" are just two titles that come to mind.
Sorry I do not have th author's names or the books at my fingertips.
Disorganization is a hallmark of ADD!)

The idea of AD(H)D as a normal, inherited condition has led to many
adults whose children have been "diagnosed" (labeled?) with it then
questioning the line of succession and discovering that they themselves
do in fact have ADD.

In many cases, they are very talented, and sometimes, even brilliant, and
have compensated by learning to modify their activities to "fit in" with
a society with a preponderance of non-AD(H)D people.
It takes a lot of love and patience for a non-ADD spouse especially, to
co-exist peacefully with an ADD person (and vice versa).

There are chat rooms and websites devoted to information and support for
both Adults learning to function more effectively with their ADD thinking
styles, and for parents of children with ADHD.
It is now thought that Mozart, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Edison were
probably among those whose minds worked in this fashion.
Very comforting thought to find oneself in such company.

Of course, ALL infant brains, non-ADHD and ADHD, stand to benefit from
human breast milk. And ALL children's style of relating to the world and
everybody in it, stand to benefit from the nurturing actions enhanced by
the hormones of BF, IMO.

But I question any lumping of ADHD per se with any impairment,
less-than-normal "conditions" or disease processes.

Just my Adult ADD $.02 worth.
