Julie Taylor had a disheartening story about advocating on behalf of a
factory worker who was allowed two 5-minute breaks to pump in the filthy
bathroom for the first week back at work, and then not even that. Julie
spoke to the man in charge and got no satisfaction.

Dear Julie,
Thanks for bringing me back to the Real World of the USA. Of course they let
people take SMOKING breaks in VIRGINIA!!! (Just needling you!) [For global
Lactnetters...Virginia is a big tobacco-producing state.]

I applaud your courage in facing up to this man. It must have been pretty
awful for you, and think what the mother went through! This looks like a
case where other measures are needed. Obviously education and advocacy
didn't work for this mom. I forget what the law is in Virginia. Don't you
have a workplace law, or am I mis-remembering?

Save this story. Write it up (with dates and names) and send it to your
state bf coalition. This is the kind of story you can use to get attention
from people who might be interested in helping-legislators, public health,
women's empowerment groups, etc. It won't be in time to help this mom, but
what about all the moms who will have babies in the future?
