My heart goes out to all of you nurses and LCs who need to spend so much
precious time worrying about being sued. I don't quite get this
"touching issue." When a woman goes to a doctor, does she expect
him/her to examine her by romote control? Does a dentist need to
present every patient with a waver before examining his teeth? What
about a seamstress taking measurements? Football? Swimming lessons?
A number of years ago when my (then) pre-schooler attended camp in the
States, the counselors weren't even allowed to help the kids with
zippers. We've got a whole generation of kids who have never known the
hug of a kindergarten teacher comforting them when they fall or a kindly
family doctor putting their arm around a shoulder. I for one will NOT
fall into this trap. I comfort my clients when they cry, hold their
hands, give them a big hug when they need it... If more professionals
would rebel against this nonsense, the situation would improve.
