Flossie,--yes! Sometimes I have run into moms who think that their entire
areola needs to be in the shield--just like the baby. That was why I was
pointing out the importance of the LC! -- Debbie Albert, Ph.D., IBCLC - Tampa, FL

I recently had a mom come in for new flanges for her PIS. She had been
given Large flanges with previous child, which were more comfortable
than standard but seemed to allow her nipples to be pulled all the way
down the nipple tunnel to touch the end of the tunnel. When I used the
Medela breastshield sizer, it indicated that she needed the SMALL
flanges. Mom decided to try the small ones; she reports they are by far
the most comfortable for her yet! This is not the first time that a mom
has come in asking for large but actually needing small flanges. Has any
one else encountered this?
