Dear Friends:
    Check out JHL  13:2 1997 pp. 145-147 “Observations Based Upon Multiple 
Telephone Contacts with  New Breastfeeding Mothers”. (Disclaimer: I wrote it.)
    The bulk of the calls were made in the first week  after discharge (which 
is when breastfeeding is most likely to be lost).  Moms were asked how bf 
felt, if the baby was smiling and what color was the  poops. Anticipatory 
guidance was given about hand expression to soften full  areolas, and that one could 
bf if ill.
